Happy Summer!

Can you believe another school year is completed!  Yikes!  If you have not already done so, please let us know your summer plans.  We know plans change so as the summer progresses remember to keep us in the loop!  It’s not too late to sign up for Pony Camp.  Shoot us an e-mail if you want to get in on the fun!  Also, if you have decided to show in Michigan or Kentucky in July and have not yet told us we need to know asap.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Sloane’s Graduation/Going Away Party.  I am not sure I will recognize the place without her!  We all wish her the best of luck!  Can’t wait to hear about her Wildcat Adventures!

May was a busy month, besides Sloane’s send- off we went to two competitions  in Katy.   Here are some of the highlights of those shows.

Round Up:

MJ Maestas had another great show.  On Oswald Van De Leeuwerk aka Ozzy she was Large Junior Hunter 3’-3”, 15 and younger Champion.  She rode Perry to a win in the USHJA 3’-3”Hunt Seat Medal and capped off her equitation for the weekend with a win in the THIS Medal.  Let me just mention that MJ won the THIS on a score of 86.  She also won a Medium Pony Hunter Class on Margot Evan’s Bada Bing Bada Blue.

Annabel Grefe’s Indigo aka Indie was Champion in Hopeful Hunter with Caroline Molther in the irons.  Annabel and Indie did some winning of their own in their first show together.  The pair won the Limit Equitation over Fences.  Annabel also won the Green Pony Hunter under saddle on Sorry Not Sorry aka Nacho.

Liston Johnson’s Grand Romance aka Champ was in fact a Champ finishing Champion in the Performance Working 3’-6” with Caroline Molther in the saddle.  Liston and Champ did some winning of their own on Saturday.  The duo won the Saturday combined Junior Hunter warm up.  Liston was Reserve Champion on Cassandra in the 15-17 Junior Equitation.

Sam Marshall and Kingsland aka King were Reserve Champion in the Children’s Hunter Pony Division.

Cheryl Lawrence’s Esquire aka Squirrel and Caroline Molther won the 2’-9” USHJA Hunter under saddle.

Caroline also had the winning round on Andrea Soper’s Just Elliot aka Elliot in the 0.75-meter jumpers.

Noteworthy

In the USHJA 3’-3” Hunt Seat Medal we had a one-two finish with MJ taking the blue and Liston the red.

In the THIS both MPH riders made the test.  MJ was first and Delaney Husted was fourth.

Fiesta Classic:

What a week the Fiesta Classic was!  Not only was the weather beautiful, but the MPH riders hit it out of the park!

MJ Maestas took the Championship for the second week in a row on Oswald Van De Leeuwerk aka Ozzy in the Junior Hunter 3’-3” 15 and under.  She and Ozzy took it up a notch and won the combined Junior Hunter Classic.  MJ for the second week in a row won the THIS and the USHJA 3’-3” Hunt Seat Medal on Perry.   She also won a 3’-3” Junior Hunter over fences on Amber Tribbles’ Copy That aka Kenzo along with the Saturday Pony Warm Up on Margot Evans Bada Bing Bada Blue.

Delaney Husted and Slick Sonic aka Slick won all three classes of Children’s Equitation making them Champion of the Division!

Georgia Carter had a great week. She and Side Hustle aka Vemy were Champion in the Weekend Hunters.  Earlier in the week Side Hustle and Georgia were Reserve Champion in the 2’-3” USHJA Hunter.  Vemy was also Champion in the 2’-6” GSEC Hunter with Caroline Molther.

Caroline Molther and Indigo aka Indie made it two in a row bringing home the Hopeful Hunter Championship again. Annabel Grefe and Indigo  scored their first tricolor together.  They were Reserve Champion in the Limit Hunters.  Annabel and Sorry Not Sorry aka Nacho were Reserve Champion in the Medium/Large Pony Hunter Division.  Annabel and Nacho also picked up the win in the under saddle of the Green Pony Hunter Division.

Liston Johnson’s Grand Romance also did some winning over the week.  With Caroline Molther in the irons, he was Champion in the 3’-6” Performance Hunters.  With Caitlyn Gidley in the irons, he was Reserve Champion in the 3’-6” Junior Hunters.

Caroline also had a great week in the Jumper ring.  She piloted Sloane Wallace’s Kinfolk aka Snoopy to Champion in the 1.0-meter Jumpers.

Hannah Cai and Cools Candy Apple aka Candy were Reserve Champion in the Short Stirrup.

Cheryl Lawrence and Esquire aka Squirrel brought home the blue in the Walk/Trot Poles under saddle.

Congratulations to Caroline Quarles on her new ride Empress Josephine aka Josie.

Why do some classes get scores but not others?

All Classics and Derbies get scores. (Hunter)

WCHR Classes get scores. (Hunter)

THIS Classes get scores. (Equitation)

USHJA 3’-3” Jump Seat Medal gets scores. (Equitation)

WIHS Equitation Classes get scores.  (Equitation)

In both National and International Derbies, points are added on to a score when high options are jumped.  In Derbies, both the Classic Round and the Handy Round, there will be four option jumps.  For example, a rider gets a base score of 80 in the classic round but jumps all four options.  This brings their score up to an 84 for the Classic Round.

In both the USHJA 3’-3” Jump Seat Medal and the WIHS Jumper Phase there is a time allowed.  If the rider exceeds the time allowed those seconds are subtracted from their score.  For example, a rider scores an 84 but exceeds the time allowed by 3 seconds.  Their final score would be 81.
