August Newsletter 2024

Welcome back!

I hope everyone had a nice summer. Caroline and I spent the month of July in Traverse City, Michigan. Al and Katherine held down the fort in Houston. In fact, they both deserve a big shout out for coping with Hurricane Beryl. Once Beryl blew through they got everything up and running at the barn with as little interruption as possible.

Here are July’s highlights:

GLEF 1

Liston Johnson and Chine Van’t Schanshof Z aka Chine had a blue-ribbon round in the meter jumpers. They then had two consistent rounds in the 1.10-1.15-meter Junior Jumpers ending up fifth in both classes. The pair was only one of three combinations to go double clear in their classic. In fact, Liston was the first one in the class to go double clear. Chine and Liston were third in the class.

Liston also started her partnership with Royal Odyssey aka Odie this week in the 3’-3” Equitation. She brought home a seventh in the USHJA 3’-3” Hunter Seat Medal.

Delaney Husted borrowed Georgia Carter’s Side Hustle aka Vemy for her trip to Michigan. The pair brought home the blue in a Children’s Hunter over Fences class. Delaney on her other borrowed mount, Dana Malin’s, Happier Than Ever aka Eli was sixth in the Children’s Hunter Classic.

GLEF 2

Liston Johnson and Royal Odyssey aka Odie solidified their partnership with a Championship in the 15-17 Equitation.

Liston and her new partner in the jumper ring, Katmandu aka Kat had a Blue ribbon round in the meter jumpers. On her old buddy Chine Van’t Schanshof Z aka Chine, Liston was eighth in the 1.10-1.15-meter Junior Jumper Classic.

Lauren Harrison and Oswald Van De Leeuwerk aka Ozzy deserve a shout out. They placed fifth in the Adult Hunter Classic out of all three divisions of Adult Hunters.

GLEF 3

Liston Johnson and Royal Odyssey aka Odie had a solid test in the USHJA 3’-3” Hunter Seat Medal taking the win. Liston and Odie followed up their win with a third-place finish in the Hamel.

Liston Johnson and her girls, Chine Vant Schanshof Z aka Chine and Kathmandu WV aka Kat, picked up blue ribbons in the meter blue ribbon round on Wednesday. Chine and Liston won the 1.10-1.15-meter Junior Jumper on Thursday. They also placed fifth in the 1.10-1.15-meter Junior Jumper Classic. Liston and Kat also finished third in the 1.00-1.05-meter Junior Jumper Classic.

Delaney Husted and Happier Than Ever aka Eli finished their three weeks in Traverse City on a high note. They finished eighth in the USHJA Junior/Amateur 3’ National Hunter Derby out of 40 entries!

GLEF 4

MJ Maestas and SWS Charleston aka Charley took the Championship in the Pre-Children’s/Adult Jumpers. The pair also won the Pre-Children’s/Adult Jumper Classic. In the hunter ring, MJ and Highmark aka Koko were second in the combined Children’s Hunter Classic.

Lauren Harrison and her two boys had a great finish to their three weeks in Michigan. Lauren and RVF Hudson aka Hudson were Reserve Champion in the Adult Amateur Hunter 50 & Over. Lauren and Oswald Van De Leeuwerk aka Ozzy were eleventh in the USHJA Junior/Amateur National Hunter Derby out of field of 38 entries!  Lauren and Ozzy’s first round score was an 87!

Liston and Odie moved up the placings to take the win in the Hamel on Equitation Tuesday. They also took the Reserve Championship in the 15-17 Age Group Equitation.

On Wednesday, Liston and Chine Van’t Schanshof Z aka Chine picked up another blue ribbon in the meters. Liston and Don Bocelli aka Freddie won the Large Junior Hunter 3’-3” Under Saddle as well as an eighth-place finish in the Junior Hunter Classic 3’-3”.

It was a month of very competitive showing. I was very proud of all our riders. I watched them develop new skills and fine tune old ones along with great placings in their classes.

It is hard to believe that school is about to start! Seems like school just got out! We will continue to be on Modified Summer Hours throughout August which means no Friday afternoon classes. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but we want to be cautious in the heat.

Please continue to sign up on Time Tree for your lessons. If the lesson is closed, please send an e-mail to the office. We will try to place you in a lesson. Please do not just show up. We do not want to have overcrowded lessons.

See you soon,

Patty
