What is the difference between Short, Middle and Long Stirrup?
These divisions are entry level divisions that can be either equitation or hunter. Short Stirrup riders are usually 12 and under. Middle Stirrup are typically 13-17 so still Junior Riders and Long or Rusty Stirrup are riders 18 and over (adults). Since these divisions are not nationally ranked it is left to the discretion of the local organizations to divide the divisions age wise for what is best in their particular area. Sometimes you will see the different age riders competing together. This happens when there are less than three riders in a certain age group. They will be pinned together but the points for state and local end of year awards will be put in the riders appropriate age group. The jumps are typically 2’. They do not jump oxers.
Have a great Spring Break!
