Other April News.
Congratulations to Liston Johnson on qualifying Grand Romance for the 3’-3” Junior Hunters at Devon. We wish her the best of luck!
Annabel Grefe might not have shown Pin Oak 3, but she closed a horse deal and now is the proud owner of Indigo aka Indie. Look for them in the Low Children’s Hunters in May.
Congratulations to Delaney Husted on making it official. She is now the proud owner of Silk Sonic aka Slick.
OTHER NEWS.
Congratulations to Emma and Ryan Cordill, one year on May 18!
May is a big birthday month at MPH! Happy Birthday to Alejandro Arvizu, Bowen McKinney, Sloane Wallace, Resse Johnson, Margot Evans, Lake Francis, and Lauren Harrison!
If you have not already done so, please let us know if you are planning to show at the Fiesta Classic in May. Fiesta Classic is at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas. Also, if you have not yet told us your summer show plans, please let us know asap.
Join with me in welcoming Taylor Nagle to the MPH staff. She will be assisting in the office.
We will be doing bi-yearly lameness work ups on Tuesday, May 13 along with flu/rhino boosters. This will not affect lessons. If your horse or pony needs joint injections you will be sent an e-mail the evening of the 13th. They will be injected on Wednesday, May 14 and need three days off. Tuesday, May 20 we will worm. The barn will be closed that afternoon.
Friendly Reminders.
Just a friendly reminder that we are closed on Mondays. Horses and ponies are not to be taken out of their stall on a Monday without getting prior permission. Monday is their quiet day.
Another (still friendly) reminder, parking is at the front of the property. Absolutely no parking by the barn. This is a big safety issue. We need to keep traffic down to a minimum. The area has people, dogs, horses and ponies, no room for cars!
Horse Show Corner.
With so many birthdays in May let’s talk about age of the riders. The riders age for the competition year is how old they are on December 1.
Ponies are divided by heights. In the Small Pony Division, small ponies can be shown by riders 12 years of age and younger. In the Medium Pony Division, ponies can be shown by riders 14 years of age and younger. In the Large Pony Division, ponies must be shown by a Junior. Junior riders are riders under the age of 18. These age break downs are also used in the Children’s Pony Division. In the Green Pony Hunter Division, the rider must be a Junior rider. Adults are allowed to show ponies in non- pony divisions.
Children’s Hunters are split between younger riders typically 14 and under and older Juniors typically 15 to 17. Junior Hunters are also split between younger and older riders. The age split is 15 and under and 16-17.
Adult Hunters are split typically into three age groups, younger 18-35, middle 36-49, older 50 and over. Amateur Owner Hunters are split in two sections: younger 18-35 and older 36 and over. In Texas, awards are given to younger and older Low Adult Hunters and Low Children’s Hunters, but they do not compete separately.
Short Stirrup riders are either 11 and under or 12 and under depending on the state they are showing. In Texas it is 12 and under.
Depending on what part of the country you are showing the Equitation is split two or three ways, 11 and under, 12-14 and 15-17. In Texas it is split 14 and under, 15-17.
