Welcome back!
Can you believe the summer is almost over! It went by so fast! I hope everyone had a healthy and restful few months.
July Horse shows.
We spent the first four weeks of July in Traverse City, Michigan showing at the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival. We then moved over to Lexington, Kentucky. I was so proud of all our riders at these two venues. Not only were the classes large but the competition was top level.
Great Lakes Equestrian Festival (GLEF):
Amelie Schaeffer and Flower Power aka Faith received two scores of 84 in the Large Children’s Hunter Pony Division on the Sunday of GLEF 2 Her first 84 was the winning score in the first over fences class. Her second 84 helped her place third in the classic.
Delaney Husted and Silk Sonic aka Slick won the IHSA/USHJA 3’-3” Hunt Seat Medal on the second Equitation Tuesday. The pair also scored 81 over the previous weekend in the THIS Medal where they placed fifth. Week 3 Equitation Tuesday found Delaney and Slick back in the winner’s circle. The pair won the IHSA/USHJA 3’-3” Hunt Seat Medal for the second week in a row.
Week 3 Amelie and Faith stepped up their game and came away with the Championship ribbon in the Large Children’s Pony Hunters.
Caroline Molther rode Georgia Carter’s Side Hustle aka Vemy to the Reserve Championship in the USHJA 3’ Hunter.
Week 4 Amelie and Faith received another tri color in the Large Children’s Pony Hunter Division. This time it was a reserve. They were also second in the Children’s Pony Hunter Classic with a second-round score of 85.
Amberlea Tribble and Copy That aka Kenzo ended their stay in Michigan with a Reserve Champion in the Adult Amateur Hunter 18-35.
Lauren Harrison won her first blue ribbon on her new mount, Mosaic M aka Hugo. Lauren and Hugo did not mess around. They won the USHJA National 2’-6” Junior/Amateur Hunter Derby with a first round score of 88 and a second-round score of 87.
Summer Hours and Lessons.
We will continue to stay on summer hours for the foreseeable future due to the heat. Please continue to sign up on Time Tree for weekday lessons. Please sign up at least 24 hours in advance. We will keep track, so the lessons do not get too big. If you are not yet in school and can come to a morning lesson it would be greatly appreciated. Should a lesson become too big we will try to find a way to accommodate everyone.
If the lesson is large and you are not signed up, you will not be allowed to ride. We know that sometimes things change. If you find you have time to have a lesson, but it is less than 24 hours to the time you want, send us an e-mail. We will let you know if we can accommodate you.
Starting this September if you sign up for a weekday lesson and do not cancel 24 hours ahead of your scheduled weekday lesson you will be charged a $10 no show charge. Please cancel by removing yourself from Time Tree or sending an e-mail to office@memorialparkhunters.com. It is not necessary to do both.
If you have restrictions as to when you or your child can ride on the weekends during the school year, please let us know ASAP. If you will not be in town over the weekend or need a certain time on a particular weekend, please let us know by Wednesday, 12 noon of that week. Any changes asked for after that time cannot be guaranteed.

Patty’s Return to Houston.

Horse Show Corner
This summer we had an unusual occurrence while showing in at the GLEF in Michigan. The smoke from the Canadian wildfires got so bad in Travers City that they had to cancel two days of the horse show due to air quality. To fit everything from a five-day schedule to a three-day schedule, many divisions had to be shortened.
At most shows, hunter divisions have four over fence classes and an under saddle. Those five classes award the points for division champion and reserve. Since time was short for week 3 of the GLEF, many divisions were reduced to two over-fence classes and one under saddle. This is the bare minimum (two over fences and an under saddle) that you can have to pin a Championship (that counts for points) in the division. Although it is unusual, it does happen where classes need to be deleted, especially when there is a big weather event.
