Howdy (That’s rodeo talk for hello),
Well, just like that, the first month of 2023 is done. I was lucky enough to spend most of it in sunny Wellington, Florida with a great team and a great group of clients. The competition was fierce, but I think I speak for everyone when I say we had a fun time. Here are some of the highlights.
Julia Sand and Cassino Royale aka Gus were Reserve Champion in the Itty Bitty Jumpers Premier Week. Julia also got a ribbon in every class on both horses in WEF 2.
Julia’s cousin, Margot Evans, continued the family’s winning ways with a blue ribbon finish in the Short Stirrup Equitation on Divide’s Freedom Spirit aka Spirit. This was Margot and Spirit’s first show together. Margot was not to be out done by big cousin Julia. She too got a ribbon in every class during WEF 2.
Sloane Wallace and SWS Top Notch aka Zed were seventh in the Low Children’s Jumper Classic. This was their first time competing together. It was also Sloane’s first time competing at this height.
While MJ Maestas didn’t come home with a blue ribbon, she did come home with an Uno! Congratulations to MJ on the purchase of Clint One aka Uno! MJ and Major Sassafras aka Majorette came home with a number of ribbons despite having just moved out of the Short Stirrup.
Liston Johnson won some pretty ribbons on Highmark aka Koko in the Children’s Hunter Younger Division. How competitive is the Children’s Hunter Younger Division in Wellington? Well, Liston and Koko got an 80 during WEF 2 and that was not a ribbon! She also got some Equitation ribbons on SWS Charleston aka Charley. BUT, the big news is she came home with Freddie aka Rutledge! Look for them in the hunter ring!
Elle McNear and Bada Bing Bada Blue aka Blue got a number of ribbons in the super competitive Medium Pony Division. Elle and Blue got an 83 in their first WIHS Equitation Class together!
Elle Wuertz and Tallulah aka Lulu also picked up some ribbons in the Low Children’s Hunter Division.
I was not only so proud of how well everyone rode, but also how we all supported each other. What a great experience!
While Caroline and I were horse showing, Katherine was busy running. Running the barn and running the Houston half marathon. She had her best half marathon time so far! Katherine’s time was 2:08:01. Way to go!
We will spend the month of February horse showing at Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas. If you have not told us your intention to show, please do so asap. Weeks three and four often sell out.
Pin Oak will be our next set of shows after the Winter Series in February. For those of you who are interested in WCHR points weeks 2 and 3 of Pin Oak are WCHR. Please let us know, no later than February 24, which shows you plan to attend. Pin Oak stalls do sell out, so our stall count needs to be accurate.
We also need to be thinking ahead to the summer. We will go to Kentucky in June, Michigan all of July and the first week of August. Please let us know what your summer plans will be.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Patty
