November 2021 Newsletter

I hope that everyone who came out to our Halloween Parade had a great time.  There sure were some great costumes!  Dr DeCillo chose a best costume with a horse.  Cinco, the unicorn and Julia Sand were the winners in that category.  He also chose the best costume with a pony.  The winner in that category was the Grefe wedding party.  The Grefe family was also chosen as the champion costume.

In October we went to one horse show, The Monster Mash at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas.  We made our one show count!  Here are some of the highlights.

Liston Johnson and Brazos were Champion in the Limit Hunter Division.  Liston’s horse Grafton and Caroline Molther were Champion in the 2’-6” Hunter Division.

Marisol Hess and Tallulah aka Lulu were Champion in the Weekend Hunters.

Laura Carter and Divide’s Freedom Spirit aka Spirit were once again Reserve Champion in the Short Stirrup Hunters.

Cecilia Friedman and Dressed Up aka Bella were Reserve Champion in the Large Children’s Hunter Pony’s.

Sloane Wallace’s RVF Hudson aka Hudson was Reserve Champion in the 3’-3” Performance Hunters with Caroline Molther in the irons.

Lauren Harrison and Charmed aka Charm won two Limit classes in their first show together and Lauren’s first show doing the Limit.

Annabel Grefe and Silver Leaf Noel aka Noel won their first blue ribbon in the Short Stirrup.

Julia Sand and Cordoba Z aka Cinco also won a blue ribbon in the Short Stirrup.

Moves Like Jagger aka Jagger won the Opportunity Walk/Trot Class with Ari Lee.  This was the pairs first show together and Ari’s first show ever!

We had a clean sweep in the Walk Division!  Ari Lee and Moves Like Jagger aka Jagger were Champion.  Emory Wuertz and Smoke ‘N Hot aka Smoky were Reserve Champion!

We will be competing in Katy for the first three weeks of November.  If you would like to compete at these shows but have not told us, no time like the present!  The second week is currently sold out.

Good luck to Elisabeth Marek who will be competing at the Maclay Finals in Lexington, Kentucky.

Remember, December 1 starts the new show year.  Please renew your USEF, USHJA, THJA, ASPCA, WIHS, NAL and WCHR.  If you are unsure what organizations you need to belong to,  please e-mail the office and we will let you know.  If you are an adult who either shows or owns a horse being shown, you must also renew your safe sport.

I am often asked about year end points.  Our show year starts December 1 and finishes November 30.  If you are trying to accumulate points for National, Zone, State or WCHR, then any awards points won during that time period will count. Shows starting on or before November 30 are included in these points.  The qualifying period for National competitions is different.  I am frequently asked about qualifying for Pony Finals.  The qualifying period for that competition is July 2 to July 2.  In order to qualify for the Pony Medal Finals, a rider must earn 30 points during that time frame.  In order to qualify for the Pony Hunters, a pony must earn a championship or reserve championship in an A or AA USEF competition.  Green ponies also must win a championship or reserve in an A or AA USEF competition.  The qualifying  period for green ponies is December 1 to July 2.   Another qualifying period I am asked about is the Maclay Equitation class.  The qualifying period for the Maclay Regionals is September 1 to August 31.  In Texas, you must earn 17 points.

We are firming up plans for Wellington.  Please let us know if you will be traveling with us to Florida in January.

Congratulations to Amelie Schaeffer on her new pony, Eazy-E aka Eazy.  Look for them in the Walk/Trot Division in the upcoming shows.
